Peezy's Black Magic 2013

I've seen a ton of this on my FB feed lately especially with the trendsetters in NYC bitching about the citibikes. It's appalling, not even because I'm a cyclist....

***appealing = appalling.....damn auto correct...

vehicles should have a second sound (like a bike bell) for the "hey i'm here" signal.....kinda like those vans in the 70s that could play La Cucaracha

had a couple cars that wouldn't pass today, even with a good sight line. their tire might have touched the yellow line and the paint would get scratched on the invisible wall. others were very courteous, waited until safe. one ass in a p/u felt he had to squeeze me approaching morning glory..

put a jorba sticker on the car?? Jorba license plate frames? bike specific license plate with our new tag line?

Whoa, overflow of responses! I'm very calm, 99.9% of the time. I don't let things like this get to me. Sometimes I am too easy going. Plenty of stories about that. What really got to me is someone I'm close with thought it was okay to try and hurt someone else. Not sure why people would think that is okay. I always think about if I did act out or did kick out someones mirror, that person is going to have it out for ANY cyclist going forward. More than likely he/she isn't going to have a fear of them, more of a distinct hate in that direction.

But sometimes, that person just deserves to have a cleat in their door.

Original plans Thursday where to hit up Water Co with Capers and Jared. I didn't realize this storm was going to hit end of the day Thursday, so I didn't risk it. I thought about jumping on the CR pain train, but I didn't need to hurt my confidence level at this point. I'm feeling really good. I had all my crap with me and hit Six Mile before the rains.

I come across some dog in the middle of the trail with no owner to be found. Eventually he takes off the same way I'm going, so I keep an eye on him. He finds his owner. Not sure he ever knew he was missing.

I get to 27 and still no rain. I figure if it gets bad, I will just B line it back. I get to the white trail and it just starts to noticeably drizzle. What better motivation to hammer it out then to not get soaked.

I make it to the road to realize it has been drizzling for a while, It's just been getting caught in the trees. I hoped that the rest of the people I saw out in the woods got out in time 😉

Always a fun ride, even with no company.

Then Mandi made pizza.

Super tired after the pizza coma, I think the rain had to do with it. Passed out rather early. Mandi was knee deep in Bookworm and couldn't stop.

Looking forward, weather forecast looks good for Stoopid 50. Even if it was going to rain, it's going to be awesome.

no wonder you are bones. I hope you had at least 3 of those.

beep beep is the friendly one

I was riding with my wife up a hill one time and asshat pickup beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeped us. It even startled me to veer. Obviously we know there are cars on the road you dick and we are as far right as possible. As he passed by I spit on his shiny pickup. He saw. He hit the brakes but then kept going. I won.

That pizza looks fantastic. Picked up pizza dough at Manville Pizza?

Nopeeeeeee, this is a secret setup Mandi was taught from a friend. Not sure how public this should get...

Pearl, you never answered about what the dude said in reply to you.

Yes yes, What they replied back with. Pretty much saying I was right. Which kind of annoyed me. It took one witty response for you to change your idea? 5 minutes before you were ready to kill me, now you did a complete 180 on your stance? I'm sure it was just blown over and forgot about. I really don't think it made it all the way upstairs.

Friday In all of this rain and crap, I had to do something semi exciting. Met up with Bill and Lisa at the local diner. Mandi got a huge Belgian waffle and I immediately wanted one, but I got a burrito. My desire for a waffle has begun. My food was good. We chilled with them for a while after and digested our food at their place. Before I passed out, we headed out and made it home mid monsoon.

Saturday My Mom was in town because Grandma dislocated her shoulder, so I met up with her and hung out for a tad before we headed to Freddies little man's 1st birthday party.

Fred got his balls in a knot.

I had 38 pretzels and enough food to put me into a food coma, but I was able to stay awake somehow. I was ready to take a nap, but we somehow made it out for a road ride

awwwyeahhhhhh

Sunday
I got my waffle fix. Sadly it almost knocked me out. Or maybe it was the cat.

Speaking of the cat, she wants to wake up at 6AM every morning. She gets fed at 7. Why she can't wait an hour is beyond me. We have tried everything. I think it has to do with the birds waking up when the sun is up, which wakes up the cat and makes her realize she is hungry.

So after the waffle, I caught up on that hour of sleep I missed. Which has us set sail for our road ride at high noon. Which isn't bad for me, but gives Mandi some wicked tan lines. She all worried about them. Apparently sun tan lotion does not work at all.

On our ride up Montgomery we passed the guy who owns the local pizza shop. He has a distinct get-up, hard to misplace him. He probably thought we were crazy.

We shared the load of work after the Sourlands and we both were putting a little hurt on each other. It was a great ride. Some chocolate milk and PB&J's afterwards really hit the spot.

First! For today. Nice weekend. Freshly made waffles are quite awesome, I think I'll need to procure some since I haven't had one in a while. I did pass a waffle truck in NYC on Saturday that looked pretty legit, seems like specialty food trucks are all the rage these days.

I thought you were going to get rid of that cat. Seriously weren't you about ready to throw it into the river 2 months ago?

Never had a specialty food truck meal; unless a hotdog in Newark counts. Mmmmm, dogs. I saw Lou eat two within a minute once. Not sure if the was because he had a couple brewskis, or was really that hungry.

Yes, The cat was on the table to get rid of. Jay offered to take her to some side road and leave her their as well so I wouldn't feel guilt about it. It was a tough week of trying to figure out what to do. Sadly, Mandi and I are both animal people and decided to keep her. It isn't easy and we still take some safety measures in order to make her feel comfortable with the cat. I also think once we move, all the things will be back to normal. The situation we put this cat in kind of sucks. Many people don't realize how attached you can get to animals, especially if you aren't a animal person. Speaking of animals...

Ben was working on this one. Holy crap is this awesome. The stem reads "Serial Killer". Hung out with the boys while I put some of the final touches on the Ridley to make it murder ready.

I feel like it took me an hour to get home, but I eventually made it. The canal being flooded really ruins my ride home. Plus the rain makes everyone drive like a little wuss.

Cheesecake Factory to unwind with my lady, I opted for the Burrito Grande. I was starving.

You know what I'm having for lunch today.

I wasn't really an animal person except for the dog I had growing up. I come from a big family, but she was kind of "mine" in the sense that I was the one who fed and walked her all the time. But once I started living on my own, I never wanted any pets. My wife had two cats, which took some getting used to, but I really like having the one guy around now (the other died a few years ago.) But just last week we kind of gained a new tenant. My neighbor's outdoor cat decided to take up residence on our back porch. He wouldn't leave at all. I blamed myself because I took the time to give him a good scratch a while ago and he kept coming back for more. (I don't think anyone had ever given that little guy any attention before that.) He's a pretty cool cat -- really low voice and very friendly. But we can't let him in (which is what he really wants) because of our other guy (he's getting old and it isn't right to introduce another full grown cat to his little world, especially since he's not an outdoor cat at all, so he's been totally, happily isolated for two years now.)

So I built a shelter for this guy and he spent two days in there over the weekend while it rained, and I would go out and make sure he was dry and had water and I'd just hang out with him. He finally went home because of yesterday's heavy rains, but I'm thinking he'll be back tonight. I'm afraid to feed him because he'll never go home and he seems to go over for food now and then and then come back now, so I'd prefer to keep it that way. I do like having him aorund though -- he's a pretty neat cat.

But I totally get your point -- they grow on you, don't they?

that bike is badass.

my sister gave me her cat once because this cat was terrorizing her other cats. it was a stray kitten found at newark airport. she had skillz.

as soon as i took her in she bonded to me. she was jealous of my girlfriend (now wife) and would stare her down. she was a PITA though. wouldn't sleep anywhere but my bed (usually on my chest or my head) and if i threw her out of the room she would just meow incessantly for hours until i let her back in.

i was really attached to this cat (roxanne) and didn't even realize it until she ate it. she had heart issues (she was a BIG cat) that took her out eventually. its pretty crazy how you can have a relationship - even a love/hate one - with an animal.

If you are speeding on a bike take the lane, no doubt. Typically this will occur on a big downhill, where being in the lane gives you the better sight lines into sidestreets/driveways, and it also gives you more room to move around safetly. Hugging the shoulder/curb can put you in some awkward spots, and invites an aggressive pass.

The exception to this is if you're speeding while pacelining through a residential neighborhood, then you're probably just being a clown.

What's the rule if you are speeding on a bike? Like, speed limit is 25. I am doing 35 down a hill... at what point am I allowed to take control of the lane and not let cars pass me until I get to the bottom? I kinda feel like if I am doing 10+ above the speed limit, a car has no business passing me just because it's a bike... I mean, would a car pass a motorcycle that was doing 35 in a 25?

If you are going at or above the speed limit, take the lane, no question. The second you drop below the speed limit, more over.

For 12 years, my wife's cat used to bite me, puke on me, jump off the dresser onto my belly in the middle of the night...

I finally kicked it out of the house, and it was total bliss for all of us. Cat loved living outside.

Even better, somebody eventually stole him from our front yard.

How do I know he was stolen, you ask?

Because the thief couldn't handle that POS cat, and she brought it back and confessed a few weeks later.

We've had cats for years. Two things we always did was have two (currently we have 2 sisters) so they keep each other company, and never let them in our bedroom. When we first got the latest pair they'd try to tunnel under the bedroom door, but soon gave up trying. Their "play" catfights are pretty amusing

That thief was an idiot. Why would she confess? Why not just drive by at night and drop the cat on your lawn? Or just let it go and not care if it gets back. Seriously -- if she thougth to take it inthe first place, why would she care if you got it back? This baffles me. She gives thieves a bad name.
