Post your BooBoo's

So this is where you wind up when Wildcat bites you. One minute into my ride, twisted my right leg pretty good, lots of crunching sounds. Hope nothing is broken, but definitely cant walk on it.

Update:
Five hours in the ER on a Sunday afternoon isn't fun. Thankfully there is nothing broken, but ligaments take a while to heal. I'm in a knee brace and crutches to walk. Going to see an Ortho and get MRI this week to see how extensive the damage is. Hope it's not too bad, but it is what it is.

Ugh sorry to hear that, get well soon

Maybe you and Utah Joe can hang out ;)

Update:
Torn or sprained MCL, which explains why I have no lateral stability. MRI scheduled for the 17th to look at the ACL and determine the extent of the damage to the MCL.
The good news is the MCL will heal with rehab, hoping the ACL is okay.

No pics but I dodged a bullet yesterday.

Been having a slight nagging pain on the left side of my jaw thought it was my TMJ acting up again. Then a few nights ago I woke up with a sharp pain when I was laying on that side so I did the proper thing and just rolled over and went back to bed.

Yesterday morning woke up to much worse pain and face was swollen. Uh oh. Got dentist appointment for the afternoon.

Turns out have mild infection from something getting jammed in between the teeth and gums he was able to pluck it out and it felt better almost immediately. But antibiotics for 10 days then I have to go back next month for the dreaded deep cleaning.

Better than root canal or a cracked/extracted tooth.

Always wear eye protection when riding..

Fatbiking yesterday morning in wildcat during the snow. A branch from a trailside thorn bush (bout 10' long) snagged the boot of the rider in front of me... he kept moving and eventually the thorns let go and the entire thing whipped back and caught me right in the face, hooked into my lips and mouth before being ripped out from my forward momentum. Took a nice gash out of the right side of both my upper and lower lips requiring stitches and I was still pulling thorns our of my face and inner lip later in the day.

It literally hit me in the only exposed skin on my body. based on the angle it hit me had I not been wearing goggles it definitely would have caught my right eye as well.
I always cringe when I see people riding without eye protection and to each their own but it's def not a good idea.

This needs context

A few bullet points before I start:

- The healed scar on the hand is from a gangfight with a vacuum cleaner I had last summer. I had a plate and some screws put in at that time.
- This is the first broken bone I've had due to mountain biking in 15 years. There is a possibility I may have had a stress fracture or two, but never got them checked and healed by themselves.

So I was riding my bike at Dupont Forest near Brevard, NC for 5hrs and it was like 6pm and I decided to stop by the car to grab my light and a jacket because I'd never ridden the Reason Over Creek trail in its entirety before. It's about 3 miles so no big deal I thought. At the end of the first downhill, there is a river crossing and as the trail switchbacked into the crossing area, there was a step down into a creek bed. The smooth rockface underneath was like ice and the front tire slid out and that was that.

The moment it happened it didn't hurt at all. I guess too much adrenaline. I didn't even notice it was bent until I looked down at my hand and started cursing at myself for being so dumb because I knew the crossing was coming up and had to walk anyway. At the ER it started to hurt a bit if it moved by accident. The needle they put in to numb the area hurt like a b*tch.

So next day I saw the ortho and he was like you should get surgery to make sure it heals straight. And I was like maybe let me think about it. Then they removed the ER cast and I saw the finger was still pointed in the wrong direction (spiral fracture) and I was like hell no, I ain't gonna let it heal like that. By then the ortho had gone to talk to his buddy hand specialist and the specialist suggested the pins you see in the photos.

Basically the advantages are that they will come out after 4-6 weeks and he said with the plates and stuff, you tend to lose some flexibility with scarring around the tendons and stuff which I wasn't listening carefully to so not exactly sure what he said. But it sounded good to me at the time so I went for it.

Having been through both surgeries, I'd say the pins are more of a pain to maintain because they don't let you finger bend really much at all. It will be interesting when they come out . Doc said it won't really hurt, but may feel weird. I'll try to get a video.

Wife had pins sticking out of her toes. Dr distracted her and pulled the pins. She didn't even know it.

good job making moves right away. when I broke my pinky finger a couple years back I waited a couple weeks to see the ortho because I was registered for some expensive enduro races and refused to waste that money lol. ortho said he would have recommended surgery to put screws in but it had already started fusing back together at that point. he told me to see how it heals and if it's too weird they would have to break it again and reset it. thankfully it doesn't bother me too much and I can still play guitar so whatevs.
