The Indoor Cyclist's support thread

@Glenn Rides After 4 PM CST

Here are my thoughts:
Cadence drills are good.
I think its easier to take advantage of higher cadences on the road Or gravel. On a MTB its hard to keep a high cadence due to terrain.
Its easier to spin up a climb, then to mash up. The old “lift 20 lbs 5 times or 100lbs once” cliche comes to mind.
I think this is true universally and everyone should try to keep higher cadences.
Doing low cadence drills are also good. It builds a different engine which is useful for those inevitable mashing moments on a MTB.

Bald knob.
Another hair joke at my expense😀
Ok well my friend who is also follically challenged just finished this TR session is that better ?

Ok.. question for Zwift/Apple TV 4K users..
I finally ditched the old glitchy MacBook and set up ATV4k. Bluetooth allows two connections... Obviously one is the Kickr, for the other, you using HR or cadence? Is there a way around this?

use the zwift companion app on your phone mounted to your handlebars.

Doesn't the Kicker transmit cadence over the same Bluetooth connection as power, speed etc?

I can pair the HRM or cadence to that, and it will broadcast it to what I'm seeing on the TV screen? Will check that out. Thx

It takes care of the details. It might run everything .?.?

It also has some nice controls and other dashboard type stuff that you'd need to grab the apple tv remote to do.

How does it know?
I guess it has accelerometers that sense the cyclical changes? I'll need to look when I get home.

Even so wouldn't power/spd/cad and control be on different channels leaving no room for HRM?

it measures power right? power spikes, 2 per revolution, probably the same way powertap hubs did it.

Not sure but I had a power tap hub that did cadence so probably the same way.

Also, pre kickr 18 didn’t do cadence.

It's all on the same channel. One channel can have tons of types of outputs, that's why those combining methods work like the 4iiii heartrate monitor that can talk to multiple devices and then transmit all the data on one channel.

But I guess it's confirmed that older Kickr's don't have the capability.

Man everyone has such nice uncluttered set ups. I’m in the basement that’s not finished. It’s where the kids xBox is - LED ceiling rainbow disco lights and all. The skeleton keeps me company.

I have the lights, too. I think they're 100% necessary to maximize your trainer work.

Are you doing the basement yourself? I have a buddy who finished his own basement when he had his house built. He framed it on the outside wall and again about three feet in so that he could build corridors behind the walls for all his electronics. He soundproofed the outer and inner walls, and has a server bank behind the walls for work (he's worked from home for about 20 years now.) The setup is cool as hell - combination of entertainment, work space, full bar and he even has a full-sized shuffleboard table. The corridor is the genius part for him - he has about as much technology down there as a Silicon Valley startup but you'd never know it walking into the space, and yet it's all easily accessible for repairs or upgrades.
