This Thread Blows - C19 and beyond

Last night I tried to get to sleep without drinking half a bottle of bourbon. Woke up at 3am and had Coronavirus on the brain until about 5:30 am.

Tonight I say fuck it. Polished off about 8oz of Kentucky’s finest and just did a shot of NyQuil.

Fuck you Coronavirus. Night Night birches (I say that lovingly).

out of control panic + out of control drinking - what could possibly go wrong here?

Anyone following the cases in Lakewood NJ and Kiryas Joel NY? Not much in the way of news since they are so hush hush, but I wouldn't be surprised to see that "town" become the hot spot in the US. And disturbingly enough, they might flood all the hospitals in the area due to their refusal to isolate.

someone/someplace always has to the the example of what not to do.
totally sucks that whoever is leading, is ignoring the science.
Hopefully the military personnel and our essential civilian employees are safe.

otoh
I have discovered that i can blow my nose on 1 sq of TP, and take care of #2 with 1 facial tissue.
adjustments in behavior have been made for the good of society.

For a look at how things play out when you let things run the course, check out Holland. (Note to @a.s. - don't look there).

It's actually great what they have done. And by great I mean really not good at all.

Now imagine how people will react to actual real adversity and danger, if good forbid it ever happens. You have part of the population who pretend nothing is happening and it’s all good, you have another part that completely lose their shit. If anything, this whole thing serves as a sobering preview, take good notes and pay attention.

a quick note about the day-over-day new cases -
if the graph is growing, it is exponential - just a different factor.
ie, if day-over-day it is 10% more than the previous day, the doubling rate is 7 days. which is better than 4.
it would be linear if the graph was flat across the top.

so this is a good look, but i'm not sure if i trust data from a sunday.
Hopeful for a good week in our area.

You would have loved my life yesterday... My wife comes home from a full day in the tent swabbing/testing potential covid patients.... She walks in the house... (right in this room is our washer /dryer) so she starts to strip down to throw her clothes directly into the washing machine.... My son comes running in and gives her a giant hug in her scrubs... Which we quickly break up.... Anyway.. What am I going to do? Obsess on this all night? Hose him down with bleach? I understand the stress, but a half a bottle of bourbon?

I mean I do have anxiety issues myself....but once you realize that you are trying to control something that you have 0 control of...I dont know, I guess I can just let it go. I mean my wife's boss now has covid...she thinks its only a matter of time until gets it. Whatever, we are healthy people, chances are we will be fine. I feel better about her working with covid patients then when she told me stories about ebola patients.

My wife said they are converting the PICU floor to just handle corona patients. She also said that there have been no traumas coming in...so in one sense, yes, the covid concern is real and they are seeing alot of covid patients, they arent seeing anyone else. very few car accidents, no kids getting hurt playing sports, etc.

Yes you're right. Not sure what I was thinking on that one.

This week will be interesting to watch. I remain cautiously optimistic.

you were looking for a positive, and found one!
a slow down in the rate. we'll take it.

I don't see any reason not to be optimistic.
Numbers are still going to grow in the absolute sense, but it is the trend that matters.

Now I'm getting scared. Fox news says Chicago mayor says long runs or bike rides are now prohibited and they will arrest violators.

What if you have to take a long bike ride to go to your essential job because your car exploded?

Hypothetically of course.

Slept like a baby - 8 solid hours. Did 45min Peloton this morning then 2 hours with clients. About to take a shower. After that the wife and I will home school our kids until lunchtime. A few more clients, some playtime, more home schooling, get dinner ready... Yep, totally out of control.

Misc info that may have already been posted, maybe not, but @Patrick and @rick81721 may appreciate:

About the virus:

Epidemiology model understanding:

TSA numbers comparison:

Not sure if this has been shared yet or how accurate it is, but it's an interesting visual:

Good for you. I hope you realize taking a dose of Nyquil after all that alcohol put you at higher risk of sudden death than coronavirus probably ever will
