Verizon Droid

When I go to a Flash website with a desktop the damn thing hiccups because it's such a memory hog. I can't see any added benefit in running it on these far less powerful devices.

Thats because your pc is a piece of crap.... 😀

After briefly looking at those directions for the froyo update, I would just wait. Doesn't seem worth it. But that's just me.

Thanks for the flash link. Now I have a smart phone with flash. I am the envy of millions. Now....what's a site I can test it with... lol.

How did you get 2.2? Super secret beta version?

Yeah, Iphones have no such issues. Just keep your hand away from it while talking and make sure you upgrade your imac and $70 cables at the same time you update softward/hardware on other devices. I will keep my standard usb and backward compatible devices thank you very much.

🙄 I didn't make any nonsense snipes at you I'm not sure why it always comes down to this on the other side of the fence. I'm sure I don't own any $70 cables, and even though I didn't HAVE to update my mac it cost me $10 to upgrade my OS from Leopard to Snow Leopard.... This argument about backward compatibility is plain silly. Just look at the idea of universal binaries, I can run stuff on two different sets of ARCHITECTURE not OS version, but two different pieces of hardware with completely different instruction sets on hardware that hasn't been in production for years.

People seem to really whine a lot about apple, but sometimes I think it's because it's the cool thing to do. Apparently it's becoming more hip than tight jeans and macbooks.

Well then I sincerely apologize for my collective years of experience in dual-platform networks being 'nonsense', my arguments being 'plain silly' and for 'whining'. If you don't want to hear my 'hip' opposing facts and viewpoints, just say so and I will stay out of the discussion.

So now it comes down to dropping down facts about all your years of experience, is that what it took to come up with some sny remark about me having $70 cables? 🙄🙄

Now your just trolling for responses from me? It is I that has multiple $55-70 media cables (one for the new iphone as opposed to $9 generic USB adapters we use for all other smartphones and BBs) and even more expensive power adapters. I feel like an idiot for not just junking the macbooks when I had the chance - thus my post.

If you think my original post was referring to you in any way shape or form, get over yourself.

The picture was amusing...I was actually looking for a "fighting on the interweb" picture, but nothing came up right away and a few of the results could raise an eyebrow at work, so I gave up.

I got my my 2.2 froyo update this morning. First noticeable changes are the app launcher and additional home screen. There also seem to be some gmail tweaks and probably a bunch of other little things. There is a noticeable speed improvement too which makes me happy. Also when entering text into a text box on a web page (like I am right now) it is showing the box on the web page rather than bringing up the usual text entry mode. Interesting change. And the virtual keyboard is giving punctuation suggestions each time I hit space bar which means you no longer have to switch keyboard screens to get to the comma when you have speech to text enabled. Sweet. Going to Dow load flash beta now.

Froyo includes a native twitter app...Just what I've been waiting for 🙄 The alarm clock is integrated into a new native clock app which seems to emulate the "dock mode" for the nightstand dock you can buy.

Still looking for a nice weather widget. I uninstalled the weather channel app because I felt like that was bogging down my phone (could be all in my head) and the google news/weatehr app is great if you're only concerned about the weather at your current location. Unless I'm missing something there.

Anyone find anything else?

I don't think so, Not sure what the roll out plan is for the Droid X. You'll get a popup window about a system update and it will ask if you want to install. It doesn't show up like a market app update.

there's probably something in settings to check about the phones software to see what version you are running.

i put 2.2 on my hd2 a few nights ago and fell in love with droid - unfortunately the 3g isnt working 100% yet.

I checked for system updates on my wifes droid but nothing yet. It's like christmas morning, waiting and disappointed

I know the Droid X has a slightly different UI (Motorola's Android "skin" right?) but the basics should be the same. From the home screen press Menu > Settings >About Phone

Here it gives you the Android version, build number (FRG01B for Verizon's Droid Froyo roll out). Press the "System Updates" option to check for updates.

Found a few more things: Youtube App gives you a "HQ" button right on the main screen so you don't have to go to Menu and choose "Watch in HQ"

Also you can sort contacts by last name now. This is a pretty sweet update.
