At the end of the day who cares if they're in the HOF he had his day and will live out the rest of them like a king regardless of public sentiment.

I'd rather go down for cheating over and having made my money. The Astros are just another example, cheating is worth doing if it wasn't the IRS wouldn't be a thing.

This isn't even a conversation about morals its simply put stupid not to try and get any advantage you can because the rewards are far greater.
This is the most idiotic statement lol... Look at bonds... Banished to being a pre season hitting coach in Arizona.....

It’s in this that Bonds sat down with Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic. Bonds did not hold back his emotions regarding how the baseball world sees him more than a decade after his retirement.

“I feel like a ghost. A ghost in a big empty house, just rattling around.” Bonds said. “A death sentence. That’s what they’ve given me. My heart is broken”

These types of emotions are not normal from a man that was standoffish with the media during his 22-year playing career. It’s rather obvious that Bonds is bitter about how everything turned out.

He's not a king and basically most people in baseball would love it if he dropped dead.... So compare bonds career with say jeters.... Whose now the ceo and part owner of the marlins...

So I can't agree that the short term money is/was worth it...

As far as KFC goes... Sucks... There is very little money in cycling and it's a very hard sport to train and be a pro at... so I understand the desire to do whatever to get ahead....I have no idea what's true or not but has anyone been successful fighting these bans?
I see that list with very few football and basketball players... Which doesn't surprise me.... Real contracts, big money, lot to lose...although better doctors? So who knows really

Than you have Denise Betsema only get 6 months. And Katie Compton thought that was bullshit. As she was quoted as saying in this article.

I’m not sure how the USADA and UCI handle their doping bans.

It’s also a little unfair that an NFL Player gets 4 games for a PED. And cyclists get months or years. Seems like every few days there’s another nfl player getting popped for PEDs but nobody cares or says a word. It’s forgotten as soon as they are back.
A cyclist lives with that stigma for life.

Different sports, orgs, fan bases, economic model.

Imagine Tom Brady got a 4 year ban, say 10 years ago. The economic impact is tremendous. The NFL is a business first, sport second. Cycling - well honestly I do not think it can be called a business much at all. Does Lance getting banned cost organized cycling any money at all? In reality it likely helped the bike industry as a whole. More press.

In terms of fair, it's like saying my kid & your kid did the same thing and they did not get punished equally. Somewhat simplistic but not. Different houses, different rules. Also we have older kids so our resolve is eroded. Do whatever, just please do not set the dog on fire.

You can thank the 90’s and 2000’s for that in cycling.
Similar to what norm said, you have different agencies/organizations/countries that all have different rules. Some of them play with WADA and some do not. With what the USADA did to Lance, you can’t just give everyone else alittle slap.

Seems like all pro sports are BS. If it looks too good to be true; it probably is.

It may be too much to ask people who play with balls, pedal, swim, run, beat each other, etc. for money to act as role models.

Unfortunately role models just happen. We've got entire film & music industries teeming with celebrity role models that are addicted to cocaine & heroin. Compared to that how bad is doping? These athletes are doing what many kids have been taught in their whole lives - do what you can do get ahead. As a kid, you have this notion that the world is maybe pure at some level. Then you grow up and realize that's nonsense. The nice old man down the street is a registered sex offender. Your history teacher got arrested for planting cameras in the school bathroom. Good god look at what these churches have to deal with.

We haven't even open the can of worms that contains the Bill Clintons & Andrew Cuomos of the world.

The concept of a high-profile role model is dead, much like Nietzsche's god.

Yep agreed. The length of the bans are one thing.
The stigma seems like a worse punishment. KFC could have spent the rest of her days making a living off the industry in one way or another. That may be off the table now.

I imagine it'll be a bit like Bonds (who I guess is our correlation example here) in that she may not be the CEO of the Marlins, but the hitting instructor in Arizona*.

So basically, you can expect her to be leading the cross practices at Otto's in a year or 2.

* Note - I would rather have my home in AZ as opposed to FL but you know, that's just me.

Maybe she can use it to her advantage like Floyd Landis. I imagine he’s not doing too bad with the CBD biz he’s got going on.

Remind me not to move to Warren.

I dunno. The tainted supplement thing could be legit. Tom Danielson, got popped in 2015 for "anabolic agents", a few years later, didn't someone find that one of the supplements he was taking had unknowingly been tainted with those "anabolic agents"?

The take on these things is usually that the doping is always a step ahead of the testing and athletes who get caught aren't using the latest stuff, get careless, etc. I'm really curious about the development of some of these doping practices. Seemingly it would take a lot of knowledge of how the testing actually works for a number of different substances to be able to develop something that is a low likelihood for detection. How many people understand that? And then you wouldn't want to just develop something and hope for the best, you'd probably want to test whether or not your method is detectable. That all sounds fairly sophisticated to me, so is it something that gets developed at something like the Russian state lab level and then makes its way out to various trainers/unsavory characters across sports or am I exaggerating the challenge of developing doping methods that are a step ahead of the testing?

The Internet says he's worth $100 million.
Internet says jeter is worth 200m...
And he gets to be well loved

The length of the ban does seem absurd to me..
But I'm guessing pro cycling has no players association or collective bargaining.... Much like @Norm said... Tom Brady has been worth billions to the pats, NFL etc... And really, all of this comes down to TV in the end. Athletes make money based on spectators and TV... All sports with the exception of the nfl are mostly beholden to the TV networks... And suspending say LeBron for 4 years would damage ratings.... Cycling has no ratings
