Hey all. I am 28 and recently relocated to the Hewitt area and am looking to start riding. I have seen people riding around the Skyline Drive area, and want to explore those trails. I am a complete noob but am a workaholic. Self employed so I can ride all the time. Looking for people who would not mind riding with a noob to show me the ropes and then watch me go!

Hi, welcome.

Where did you come from? I mean, where did you live before Hewitt? And why did you choose Hewitt? And do you think there should be 1 or 2 Ts in Hewitt?

Well I am originally from MA, then NH, then VT then FL, and ended up in River Edge, NJ when my fiance and I found out we were having a child and she wanted to be close to her family. I moved us from River Edge to Hewitt a few months ago as this area reminds me of Vermont and it's cheaper. I think Hewitt should have two T's. Not sure why though

hello

cool. you are the man! Congrats and enjoy riding. You will need it to keep your sanity in check very soon

I'm not from the north but plenty of other know it alls that are willing to show you around on here

Welcome to riding and the site. Its shame you couldnt of stayed up in the New England area but at least your a short ride away.

Welcome.
If your the real steve o, i have to ask...did u ever light a bottle rocket out of your ass.

@aedubber: that would be cool. Right now I have an old Blast I bought off ebay, but am actively looking for something bigger and a 29er. Airborne as one I like and my wife's cousin knows someone over there so who knows. I am a taller, heavier guy on a limited budget for now.

@poorigy- Yeah no I have not.

welcome!!!

northern NJ does remind me of NE (I lived in ME and VT). Great trails up there - once the trails dry out, more people will be posting up for rides.

Welcome, sir!

You should keep the above statement for future reference. The "taller" part probably won't change ... but the "heavier" will and the "limited budget" will eventually only matter in hindsight (and by then it's too late to care anyway!) Have fun!

The heavier probably wont change unless I gain, as I am in pretty good shape now. The budget...from what I read that goes out the windows when you start mountain Biking. The wife gave me a budget to buy a bike is what I meant

wife "budget" rules: add 20% (at least) - just don't tell her 😉

Welcome!!!! Once the trails dry out, there will be a lot of group rides up in that area. You have 4 major parks to ride up there. Skyline, Ringwood, Jungle Habitat and Waywayanda!! You should have no problem finding people to ride with. The only thing is that most of those parks are pretty technical,so start out slow and walk what you feel is too dangerous.

Yeah, I can imagine they are a bit technical. I went to a Downhill race last summer at a Windham and they were also doing the world cup XC races and it made me want to ride. A roommate in Vermont rode DH for a team, and my wife's cousin rides everywhere competitively so I know the DH is not for me. I think I will feel more comfortable on a 29er which is why I am looking to buy one asap

Are you planning on buying a hardtail or a dual suspension bike? What's your budget look like? Sometimes you can get a good deal on a slightly used bike for the same price of a new bike with better components. Many members post bikes here, so keep an eye out!
