Chimney Rock Conditions

"Ignorance regarding these markings is not an excuse to violate their intent. Purple paint statutes have been around for roughly 30 years and are active in many states across the U.S. There are specific rules and regulations about using these markings like their peers, traditional “No Trespassing” signage."

I've never heard of this before.

Looks like PA has purple paint laws, but not NY or NJ.

I’ve been sticking to trail running the last couple of days - Goretex trail shoes FTW - but the conditions were surprisingly not as awful as I expected. Still a lot of leaf cover on the trail and not all the ice had melted yet by yesterday morning.

Today will be a swamp though for sure.

Walked the park today conditions are horrific it's all mud pretty much every trail. There is a very large tree down right here on train simulator.

With horrific mud conditions, walking/running on the trail is almost as bad as riding. You're leaving post hole footprints that will freeze in the next cold snap. Just stay away people! Plenty of paved places to walk/run/ride during these times.

Rode yellow only and it was good to go this afternoon. Did not bother checking pink/green since they may be greasy. Same goes for rest of park unless others have ridden and can say otherwise.

Tons of hikers today. First time in awhile I saw Miller and Gilbride lots both full. I guess it’s the long weekend.

Rode black, yellow, orange, lower red and white this morning. All was fairly good considering. White was the softest, as well as the yellow off Gilbride that leads back down to frisbee golf, but that’s bad in June.
Avoided blue, ran into a couple of guys that said it was pretty messy so didn’t bother going over.

Didn’t have much time this morning so limited ride to the spots below on red and blue. Conditions were terrific, but it was below freezing, so that might change as it thaws.

Basically avoided the lower trails and the far side of blue.

Got out early again today, the same route as yesterday, was good riding, BUT, some sections were squishy that were frozen yesterday.

With hunting tomorrow and rain Thursday hopefully Saturday morning might work if cold enough overnight Friday.

Looks like some trail work was done yesterday on Newman's side of red. Some straight thrus added to bypass some switchbacks. Didn't use 'em, just noticed them.

Also, keep forgetting to ask, but on the blue interior section circled in the pic below, there used to be 2 logs that allowed you to ride up, over, and down a huge boulder. The last time I hit that section both logs were removed and thrown to the side. Does anyone know why? That was a cool feature.

Is this the switchbacks above the Newman lot, on the western end of red? If it just happened, wasn't the hunters then.

Someone has been dismantling features and opening cut-thurs for a while now. Seems to me to be a walker/hiker. I've kinda been battling back and forth for a while. If you can and want, build it back up.

I rode early Monday morning and they weren't there, rode early today and voila. So happened yesterday afternoon my guess.

Rough idea on drawing below. Disclaimer: I'm no artiste.

So this was done by NJ Forestry. They will be doing a controled burn on the area at some point this winter. I'd expect more of it as they make roads/trails for their equipment and I'd guess fire breaks. Thanks for looking out and the park people appreciate our concern.
