Commuting

Well happy readers it is my 1yr anniversary of commuting which was foiled by GWB being closed. I have to say with traveling into NYC the past 25 yrs this is by far my favorite way. I have done it all but having this recent job made it a no brainer. Yes there are some of those days but after you start turning pedals you tend to forget.

Sorry no stats at the moment or highlights, it is something i would like to put up.

Awesome sauce! Congrats on hitting a milestone date!

I am in the process of the same thing. Have commuted by bike every single day since August 2nd without excuse, and will not feel like I have 'completed' some kind of mission until 8/2/13. I agree completely with you; it's not always easy when the thermometer reads 105 in the summer, 6 in the winter, the rain's blowing sideways or you kind of just want to take a day off but it has been extremely rewarding and I definitely don't see myself stopping after the 1 year mark.

Well done, man.

Thanks SL that is quite a feat, you prolly mentioned before how far and curiosity elv. Let the people know, I would like to know.

Iggy I should thanks man.

6am at the bridge for anybody interested. I will take you on my newly found east route followed by CP loops...

Nice work Matty- That's awesome.
And they closed the bridge in your honor- sweet!
Not sure if I'll see you in the am- maybe Wednesday I'll be in for some loopage.
Oh, if you plan on parking at HT, bring a shovel- I don't think they plowed the lot. Crosstraining!

So today didn't go as planned completely as jmanic was correct. I did bring a shovel but said f it and dropped down to soundz. He didn't shovel me a spot though he claims sickness. Besides there were cars in my spot so i took someone else's. Will see if someone pees on my tire.

Bridge was icy had a couple OSs then headed north of the bridge only to be turned around because the plow stopped. Took Harlem down and a loop an half in the park.

This is pretty funny wife text me says she and Jason think they saw me on the news. Reporter doing conditions report in Ft. Lee at 7am then comments look at that crazy cyclist riding in the snow. Whats funny is a) i work for them b) how did they know i was crazy c) if they only knew the shit i really ride.

I've been lazy lately, need to get it back together. I have been having a really hard time motivating myself to pack a bag and ride with a bag, I think I may try carting in a week or more worth of clothes and commuting bagless.

So whats been happening? I have recently switch up a couple things, one is a made the jump down to 16t cog. The 46x16 has made my commute much less spinnie but where it really counts is doing Central Park loops. Secondly i have upped the daily distance to avg between 30 to 35 miles. Today i put the new gear combo to the test. I started from overpeck park which means the long Fort Lee rd climb. 3/4 of the way i thought my heart was gonna explode but made it. SSing Rules!

I think it's sad that it takes me 35 min to drive to work and 45 to bike to work and 1:20min to take public transportation and that bus is no where near my house.

Actually it's not sad but a great thing for bikes!

1h15m with this wind lol

I've had the clips ons for months but I finally slapped them on and installed rear rack from my CrossCheck (miss that bike!). The rear bag definitely takes alot of weight off my backpack. In the backpack I just pack the work clothes. In the rear bag I pack shower stuff, lunch, water for the day. Ironically, my rear caliper seized. Fenders would have prevented this 😱

Oh the bike gods trying to foil my quest. Flatted shortly in the park, had to patch as no spare tube WTF! Lost a full lap in the time to repair. What sucks is i had rock star hair today. Totally laying great effort including overpeck park start. Ft Lee hill not a problem, progress!

On pace to top my high water mark for a week of riding which was

as it stands now with tomorrow and Sunday left

Today got me over the 1000 mile mark for the year, so I would say I am off to a good start. The beauty of it is that 90% of it has been on SS's...

Very impressive Matty, especially for the winter. You got me thinking about my numbers so I just totaled them: 319 miles total, 67% trainer, 20% MTB, 11% treadmill & 2% snowshoeing. Need to get out more!

Anyway, this is good inspiration too. This Sunday I'll ditch the gears and get out on my SS for the first time in a loooooong time.

Nice job Matty-
Come the season, the only thing that'll slow you down is mechanicals.
Travel to your races with Soundz support in tow, and you'll be golden.
