Heckle-cation the other months of the year.

The Mazda 6 wagon might be in reach but the mileage isn't incredible.

Subaru Outbacks new are out of price range, and used not really in that mileage ball park I want.

Sucks they havent brought the focus or mazda 6 wagon here in their newer versions...I think the last mazda 6 here was in 07 IIRC.

You can find outback with low milege if you look...I found my wife's 09 a little more than a year ago with 29,000 miles on it. They are ok on gas..certainly not great...it will get 26-27 on the highway. But it will embarrass my 4x4 toyota in the snow.

Ford C-Max hybrid with Eco-hitch and hitch bike rack.

Very comfortable, MSRP of 26K and 41mpg in normal driving. May not have the hatch/trunk space you want

If you are annoyed with the little things breaking on what is arguably the most reliable car EVER made, I can't wait for you to get a VW.
GUESS WHAT, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON AGAIN

We had pretty much the exact same "needs" when we decided to purchase the CRV. We ended up getting a 2013 with only 26k on it for $20,000. It gets like 23-25mpg (on my long commute it gets 27mpg) which was way more than the other SUVs we were looking at. The tank is pretty small (like a car) so it's never more than $26-$27 to fill it. Oh and it has a back up camera which is pretty much ballin' coming from a Fit.

Part of my lean towards new is I currently am dealing with a shit box of my own, I don't really want to inherit someone else's shit box.

@UtahJoe Venza is way out the range new.

Dude - you're nutz... it meets the requirements you specified + will last you forever with close to zero maintenance.. I'm on my third Toy and will never go back to anything else. My 05 Carolla I bought new in 8/2004 and I sold it last year with 225K on it and still got 3500 for it. Thing ran forever flawlessly. Wifey has Toy minivan with almost 100k on it and it runs flawlessly.

I did the homework for you - Copy / paste this into your browser, this was from a quick Autotrader inquiry putting 22k as the max, Toyota Venza

BOOM!

ON PHOTOGRAPHY
I've been meaning for two years now to pick up an infrared filter for film camera and try my hand at IR photography. I had one of those random see people from high school nights last night and actually had some non awkward camera talk which motivated me to finally buy the damn thing. My procrastination was rewarded with B&H carrying a non Hoya filter for 1/3 of the price. $25 vs $75 = touchdown Jesus.

I got the 77mm mount so I can use it on my 21mm f4, as well as any other lens with the help of an adapter ring.

What is IR photography you ask??? IR film has a special emulsion which is sensitive past the visible light spectrum into the infrared range. Why is this cool? IR photography creates a very dreamy effect on landscapes making green plant life glow bright white and skies darken. I'm very interested in trying IR portraiture which is known to bring out blood vessels through the skin with proper filtering and exposure.

An example from wikipedia comparing standard film and IR film:

On top of the lens filter I also have filter stock coming which I plan to make a flash filter with. The idea would be in darkness I can take a photo with the IR filtered flash without a lens filter and would be only recording the available light which would mostly be the IR that makes it's way through the flash filter. Very excited for this and hoping to have it dialed in for Redhook at the end of April.

Also on the order is chemicals and IR film. Can't buy records for a couple weeks after that..

ON CYCLING
I have a ride planned today which is a new loop which pieces together a couple back wall rides. By back wall I mean standard but less ridden roads of mine. Should have some good elevation, hopefully the asphalt dries out a little before then. I also have some plans to do a century on Sunday. I have a big loop that hits some great stuff as well as some pretty awful busy stuff but I have it memorized which is worth riding on 28 for a few miles.

That's pretty cool. Can you do that with a digital camera?

On my longest walk to the fridge of the year:
I said I was going to ride a century yesterday and I did.

*high fives self for following through*

https://www.strava.com/activities/276171658

My bicycle goals right are mostly ride more than last year. I did a century last March, so I wanted to do one again this year. It was a little cold yesterday but there wasn't a cloud in the sky. Overall it was a great 5:15 in the saddle. I'm planning on doing last year's revolutionary ramble loop sometime soon if anyone wants to join, pace will be 17-19 mph with a few stops. It's a great loop. Maybe May 10th. Looking at the calendar just now I see a lot of events/commitments coming up. I guess with nice weather comes my loss of down time.. But that's a good thing.

I'm matched for time this month but ahead 120 miles. I think I may have been on the trainer a few extra days last year. I'd say my season overall picked up faster this year even with the cold temps. Does that earn me hard points?

Good Work Matt! I knew you mentioned last weekend was the weekend for the century. As I was cruising through Peapack on 202 on Sunday morning, heading to ST#4, it reminded me of your plans and I was wondering if you were still doing it.

I saw it in Strava at a glance and was like - Nice... then I saw the elevation and was like - Damn!!... Then later that night I looked at it closer and saw the speed and was blown away!

That said, I would join you on that May ride, but I... Uh.... Hmmm.. (Glancing at my wrist like I'm wearing a watch - checking the time)... Have a thing... Honestly, I can't hang with those kind of stats... I'll check back in next year but by then you'll be even faster.

I had a monster tailwind all the way from basically Califon to Watchung, then again from Martainsville to mo'town, and I was riding with one other person, I assure you these numbers are exaggerated...

BUT MAYBE I'M JUST A BIG SANDBAGGER

You were like a mile from my house.

Wait, oh shit I think I saw you. Did you start growing a beard again already? Were you riding with 1 other guy? We were going to the park and at 1 point I said it looked like you. But wait, he shaved his beard. Maybe it was an imposter.

Ok I'm pretty sure it was you. If I zoom in and look where I thought I saw you, it shows you stopping at the traffic light where the 2 guys were stopping. You were wearing a Marty's kit maybe? One of you had an orange helmet because someone in the car said "orange helmet".

You were the guy on a bike, right?

THAT WOULD BE ME IN AN ORANGE HELMET & Marty's vest. And beard.
