Is strava going from suck to blow?

The API eliminated access to segments/leaderboard data years ago.
I've seen that mentioned in some articles.

remember when Strava was starting to integrate all the bluetooth devices, and suddenly stopped?
They stated that some were crashing the app. It was actually an agreement with wahoo and Garmin not to invade their space,
in exchange, they would send them data if the user "requested"

From a business standpoint, it is a very interesting move.
They are either protecting their co from legal issues of data sharing - you can still do it, but we have strict rules against it.
Or is it an income side play?

Strava has been adding so many activities, who knows what they are thinking.???

a not well known setting in Strava thats been around for a while is a security perimeter so you can hide your start and finish location within a certain radius. Ive got mine set to about a mile out. I also combine this with the setting where I have to grant permission for someone to follow me on Strava. This gets rid of the spammers and fake accounts from some foreign country that follows 98765679 people and only has 1 follower.

That doesnt prevent someone from googling your name and finding out all the rest of your public info, but its at least one layer of privacy re: Strava.

a new element to this (announced a few weeks ago) is the section below it which allows to hide/limit more per activity stats.

Finally with the stats things, not that I have anything to hide, but why do people need to see the BS estimated power on my rides.

Wow. This just wasted an hour of my time. And I don't think this will facere me at all.
I have no coaches, I do no training, I'm too slow for KOM's and IDGAF. Thanks Kirts.

I have been using this security feature as well for a while so people can't see where my house is, though it looks a bit funny when you do a MTB ride and your starting location is in the middle of the woods not the parking lot

FYI, you can change that now on the app settings. Your home can be blocked but your rides away from home can now be visible from the starting point.

Interesting story about this feature. It's been on my Strava forever. For years Ive been riding different parks and local field cuts. After posting up strava I would see my times on the segments and a few times I have noticed that my PRs and some top 10 ranks would not populate on the leader board. Always thought that was weird,
It happened the other day and when I looked deeper into it I noticed a warning saying that "this segment will not appear in heard boards due to privacy settings ". So any Segment that starts in your privacy zone will not count on the leaderboard. Interesting, so I went to the ride, edited the start finish and then that time registered on the chart. Granted it was only for segments close to the lot and just for local parks with few riders on the segments to begin with . So if you have anything similar, go back to that ride and edit the privacy back to start and go get that KOM that you deserve but couldn't get because of privacy settings.

You're welcome, again.

I Strava stalked a guy yesterday.
He dropped his credit card while running the philly marathon.
Mailed it back to him in Harrisburg.
See, Strava is good for something!

Should have made a haiku.

Ya know - I can't figure out the PDF thing here.....

I have the Elemnt and Garmin App sync directly to TF - but I do import Strava rides for reporting or adding/editting trails.

who got this?

I got the same. Not a big deal as I use TF for my own purposes. But it’s going to ruin the data model that supports TF. The popularity feature won’t be nearly as useful.

I wonder if there’s a 3rd party site to proxy the upload. Up until now I didn’t care much about this but if I have to choose, TF is more useful for me than Strava.

3rd party site to proxy the upload.

This isn't horrible - would you be willing to pay $1/yr to store your activities and direct them to current and future sites?
No display, more of just an archive of what you have - then put in an API that lets others build out on what you allow....
very low processing, just storage. And of course it would be easy to get it back....

Might even look like a subfolder with date titles, and hover notes. the rest would be third party (query access)

or a paradygm like a shared drive and having the head units drop them in?

OK - i'm retired, I should spend more time thinking about cookies and pizza with the kid, cause that is where it is at!
