Jungle Habitat Conditions

Me and my beginner MTB skills have Never been there but I thought this article might be interesting to everyone here.

There are a few highly technical trails - on the rest you'd do great.
Even some of the rollers are big, and intimidating, but doable - cause nice transitions and roll out

Just did a CCW loop and the place is as dry as I’ve ever seen it. Nice work to the diggers who cleaned up after the ill advised race in April. Everything healed up fine and there are a few new berms and rollers up in the s turns.
Hey thanks, the JORBA crew has put a lot of time in since that race. Hopefully we'll get some rain and we'll be able to get back and do some more digging

I hear there’s some new stuff happening in there currently. Any insights on what areas we might see some trail go in?

There is a new trail being constructed near Tanks called Stags. It's a non-directional, multi-user group trail, built with the intention of access for adaptive riders. As such, it's very wide, very smooth, and has large radius turns with several overtake/pull-off areas. It's also got some alternate lines for more advanced riders.

Phase 1 reroutes a section of the Butler-Hewitt hiking trail. It's fully cut, but we're going back through doing handwork and compaction now that we've got a mobile watering device to combat this drought. Feel free to check it out though!

Phase 2 will cut back through the fenceline to connect the bottom of Phase 1 to the top of the Asphault road. Phase 3 will climb from there back to the top of Phase 1 (near tanks) on the opposite side of the Top Quad fire road.

I know that having this style of trail at jungle will cause some grumbling among purists. But hopefully the opportunity to bring some less-able friends and family deeper into nature will outweigh the inconvenience of the giant roadway through the woods. Anyhow, gotta get back to it, will check back later!

I think it's awesome that people needing an adaptive trail in order to get out and ride in the woods will have one there, and I think anyone that has a problem with it shouldn't be allowed to ride at Jungle.

Agree. And all this is completely net-new trails so no one can complain they ruined an existing favorite.

Awesome stuff.

It's crazy to see such a smooth, wide trail at Jungle but looks fun in a whole different way. Sorry if i didn't see it but is this open for riding yet?

Did we meet at the chainsaw class earlier this year? The name rings familiar...BTW, that trail is awesome as well as its purpose.

A JH regular told me once that there's no dirt in that park, how deep did you have to dig to source all of that dirt or was it brought overnight from somewhere else?!?!?

It's well worth taking a look at but not open for riding yet

Yes, that was me! Hopefully we can re-meet in the forest some day!

There is some good clay here, but it is usually covered in boulders, full of boulders, and resting atop boulders. Sourcing clean clay is expensive and would have created a lot of extra red tape to cut through (trucking in outside organic material to spread through a protected state forest is usually a no-no). Knowing that, I routed the trail in such a way that I could harvest a few clay deposits to cap the trail with along the way. Quite a bit of extra work to cap it with good stuff, but... Love o' the game!

Are you using volunteers for this specific project? I would love to be involved at some point, I'm known to cheat every now and then on the Ringwood Crew...
