Good summary.
The comments pointed out a mistake I made earlier in this thread.
Apparently Chris Froom is winning TdF on keto.
That's a pretty solid endorsement and middle finger to the know it alls in this thread (who coincidentally none have actually tried the diet)
Froome eats low carbs during some training rides, etc...replaced pasta with white rice... But not doing keto. He just got away from bad carbs

It appears that he's in ketosis. At his calorie burn rate and the length of time he's done it he can eat a lot more carbs and stay in ketosis. He's also taking in external ketones which helps.
What I was reading is that his energy drinks during the race is external ketones. Which really wouldn't do anything if he wasn't burning fat for fuel.

probably ketone salts. The ester can put you in Ketosis in a matter of minutes but absolutely not palatable.

Froome is at the top of the game and the guy who broke the Western States is top of his game as well. He is fat reliant/adapted as well.

How would that work if you are taking ketones supplements... (which are banned now) wouldn't that defeat the purpose of putting your body into ketosis?

Actually I just read a quote from froome, he denied ever using any kind of ketone supplements

I thought cashews were a big no no. avocado/peanut butter is a combo I hadn't considered. You have a recipe for that pizza crust? I think I can figure out the rest.

Cashews aren't preferred over almonds. I really like savory cashew cream so I make an exception. Too dogmatic of an approach just doesn't work for me.

Pizza crust is pretty simple. Almond flour, baking powder, eggs, garlic powder and butter.

@UtahJoe i can link you to some cycling power data from a doctor that took an ester. Don't want to waste your time if you're not interested though.

It's all geeked out with VO2 and wattage talk and atp generation.

Sure... Although my policy on dieting... If I can't eat an apple on this diet... Its not a long term solution for me personally. But myself...I usually eat how froome does... Avoid carbs that don't have a good amount of fiber that goes with them. Save the gels for when I'm doing something very intense. Eggs and feta for breakfast, no bread, no pasta, salad bowl over burrito... But I look at the more as cutting out food that isn't really doing anything for me but adding calories. I have done races eating oatmeal and peanut butter for breakfast or eggs.. Doesn't have an effect on me that I have noticed. But I also have far more fat stores than your average TdF racer 🙂

Oh I get it. I love apples and fruit. This guy is a cyclist at heart. He actually believes walking and weight lifting is ideal for longevity vs. endurance sports. However he has said he will never give up god bike. For that reason alone I can get down with his blog. I think this is pretty interesting test he he did.
