Dropped my Eggs

Eggdrop,
I was taught by a very wise wookie always read your posts before you want to say something. Although your intentions was to get some like minded riders together for a fun ride and by that intention was noble. One thing you have to keep in mind on this site and other sites you have some very dedicated MTB advocates who have been trying for over 15+ years to keep our trails open to us the MTB community and to enjoy our trails LEGALLY!.
By posting the way you did opens us up to problems we have been trying to curtail for 15+ years. trust us when i say we all now how you feel about riding and the enjoyment it brings especially with like minded friends and fellow riders, but to post the way you did was uhmmm..... not well thought out.
the hard work we (all of us) put into building realtionships with land managers was very, very difficult am sure you can PM some older members / seasoned advocacy veterns on this site to get the facts of how far we have come. Now i am not the police ( but i did stay at a holiday inn last month) 😀 but i would ask you rethink how you want to announce something that might be a problem with some people on this site and the lurkers who jsut visit to see what is going on in MTB land. I would encourage you to partake in the LEGAl night rides at the designated parks in NJ, some are posted on this site get to know the ride leaders and get email address then you can start sending emails of the rides you would like to have with friends. Not making fun of you, or picking on you but please be very cautious at what you post, ask & say.

Respectfully
Mike.

Mikeyonabikey - I appreciate your input and comments. I've tried the "have lights method" and it just didn't work.

I thought the approach was well thought out, but i'll think again next time. I take the criticism constructively and to all else, i appreciate your sarcasm humor and cynicim. I just wish there was a place you can ride at night that's a little more convenient tha the NY,NJ border. Oh well

We all do. Sadly NJ has squashed Park budgets and allowing legal access is not in the cards...yet. We at JORBA are always trying to get our feet further in the door, it's just a snails pace unfortunately.

Where in NJ is it Legal to night ride? I know a few places in South Jersey where no one complains and one place (Wharton) where if you ask permission they will allow you to ride. Are there any other places in NJ?

Coulda should woulda ;-)

Eggster, I had negotiated a program with Morris COunty Parks from 2004 through 2007 that allowed for 4 legal night rides a season (2 Lew Mo, 2 Mahlon Dickerson). We held a few good rides, but generally I found the turnout too low to sustain, even after regular reminders on MTBR and MTBNJ and via email, so I scrapped it. They were held on Saturday nights, which was a requirement because the permission was granted only if a member of Morris Trails Partnership's Board was leading the ride. Since i was the only rider on the Board at the time, and my only window of time was Saturday nights (I work in NYC, so getting to the parks mid-weeks was tough), Saturdays were the deal. This may have had something to do with the low turnout.

Guy to girlfriend: "Ok if I get together with a bunch of sweaty men and women in tights in the woods of NJ this Saturday night, instead of catching a movie and dinner with you?" Girlfriend to guy: :hysterica....:hmmm:.....

Given the hard work we've done in the park systems over the years, us MTB'ers are on very good terms with the MCPC, and I'd be willing to try and resurrect this program if we get a decent indication of demand from the MTBNJ population....
