Sourlands Mountain Preserve Conditions

The red trail is clear from the pipeline to post 4, with just a couple of new log/rock features to ride.
The C trail from posts 4 to 3 is also clear, so it's possible to make a loop.

Where did you go from the end of the red trail at post 4? Is it clear from there to the pipeline/post 5? Gonna check it out tomorrow

made it all the way through

Started at the trail head and took ridge counter-clockwise to post 4, then 3 amigos to ridge at post 6 then continued to the end. From about a half mile in from the beginning to post 4 there's maybe 3-4 trees that have to either climb over or under, the others have temporary work arounds.

A good leaf blowing on the rest of 3 amigos would be nice!

Good conditions today (except for leaves). Started at the trail head and went clockwise to three amigos, three amigos to the end, then reversed direction. The beginning of three amigos from ridge trail marker 4 going counter-clockwise could use a few more trail markers - I got lost twice and ended up in the middle of the woods - had to crash around to find the trail again.

Stop leaf blowing the trails in the Sourlands! Go ride some where else if you can't follow the trails. The less traffic on the trails the better!

I'm not riding the trails (yet - getting a mountain bike soon) - I've been running them. Kinda hard to see those hidden rocks under the leaves - took a fall on 3 amigos that I thought effed my ankle and wrist - walked it off tho and was good as new in a minute or so.

Leaf blowing helps the trails dry doe

What he said ... Also don't see how leaf blowing's going to increase/decrease the traffic.

The leaves are part of the trail conditions. I have been riding and building trails in the Sourlands since 87 with the leaves on the trail.

Go over to that other forum you will see plenty of arguments for and against leaf blowing. Btw, there is no right answer as with many things in riding bikes.

everything i've read is it is much better for the trail...

If you like riding the rocks and boulders (and isn’t that why we ride Sourlands?) then it’s better to have the leaves on the trail in winter. The leaves dry quicker than exposed dirt so you can ride the boulders sooner after a wet spell.

Double-edged sword. Bare rocks dry faster than rocks covered with a matt of wet leaves

I rode last weekend and what i saw was:
The entire left side (3 Amigos) is pretty much cleared.
Montezuma is ok but still a few trees down.
I didnt try Boulderama. Is it even worth riding or are there too many trees down?

Boulderama still needs lotso work, but we have a TM date scheduled for next Saturday 12/8 to attack it. :getsome:

I'm heading out there later this morning for a debut mtb ride combined with a run. I'm only going to ride on the lower sections tho..
