The Indoor Cyclist's support thread

What's wrong with a Stages indoor bike? No subscription fee and can join Zwift or Trainerroad....

There weren't a million people that bought them during Covid and now unloading them after they have sat for a year.

And some people want riding classes like a spin studio, not a training program or video game.

Personally I'd rather have the Stages bike...

@carvegybe nothing wrong with it. We have a Tacx setup but the virtual bike rides is not her thing. She likes the classes. I prefer not being berated by a 'personal trainer'
same here prefer to do my own thing - but also I am motivated enough and structured to do so. Not everyone is so its all about preference.

My last indoor trainer ride was June 22nd. I haven't had a streak that long since February 2021 when I had COVID.
If I didn’t start this new job in early august I don’t think I would have been on zwift yet at all since a May 2nd recovery ride. I’m guessing it was raining that day or something.

Had to use it for a recovery ride last month I remember being real sore after a 120+ mile weekend of riding.

Looks like the Stages SB20 is still on sale through today for $2300. I'm strongly considering one for a few reasons. I am incredibly lazy when it comes to getting equipment together to ride and taking my road bike on and off the Tacx trainer that I have on loan from a friend is enough to make me not bother a lot of days. And once it's on there I don't want to remove it to actually ride outside. It also seems like it would be helpful for playing around with bike fit.

I've read most of the reviews and it seems like a solid choice for this price. Any recommendations or reasons not to pull the trigger?

The only reason I can think of is price.
You can get a cheap used bike and just stick it on the trainer full time.
But if you are not concerned with the price, go for it, it should be a nice piece of gear.

2 hours of updates last night. Going to use this hard wired to the router, no wifi.

I use an older desktop PC and 24” screen also hard wired to router and my ANT+ USB dongle. PC is a bit slow but I never have any issues with dropouts.

With the latest zwift updates I probably need to refresh this PC with something else before the zwift season really starts.

Yeah, we're both seeing issues with the latest. Slightly concerned the hardware isn't going to cut it this year.

yeah i been on the edge of usable service last season, could only really do whatever course was less populated and no group events. generally thats fine for me since i just do 45-60 minute workouts anyway but would be nice to join a group or meetup with all the new stuff they released into the game.
