The Indoor Cyclist's support thread

Ok, I think I'm in love with the Tacx Neo Bike with a $600 discount direct from Garmin. Self-contained, which is important now that I'm down to 1 road bike, and it's also self-powered. Timing just sucks considering I'm doing a new SJ...

EDIT- it is done. I'm going to give there sub service a try as well. All based on realistic footage, which is appealing to me. I'm definitely over Zwift. Also going to get a set of BT earbuds and do the TV thing. Committed!!!!!

So finally got my AppleTV and Cycleops Magnus trainer all set up on zwift with an upgraded 32” TV.

Total out of pocket costs $0.00

- Apple TV4K 128GB with Ethernet port and
AppleCare+ for 3 years = Gift card
Magnus Trainer = Free99 trade with friend for puppy training lesson
-32” LED TV= repurposed from family room

It took me over 3 hours of troubleshooting to finally get everything working. I had the most trouble trying to get the ATV to see the trainer over BT and connect properly. Then I found the way to use the phone companion app as a BT bridge since ATV only has 2 BT connections available to it. But it wouldn’t work at first until I deleted and reinstalled the app.

Since it was a gift card purchase I went with the 128GB model since it is the only one that has a built in Ethernet port because Wi-Fi in my basement is spotty.

Did a test spin without my HRM and restarted it a few times and now I have the new sequence figured out. It literally takes less than 1 minute to get up and running.

Start ATV and Zwift
open Companion app
Select controllable trainer
Select ride and Go.

I’ll need to get used to the new interface my old PC setup still had the old format. But it seems to be good for what I wanted which was to hop on and ride as quick as possible.

Im sure I will need to get the calibration fine tuned but looking forward to some racing and training this winter.

A few minutes into my ride this morning, the power seemed to lock in at 195w for the duration. I don't remember hitting anything on the companion app. Went back in after for another ride, and it was back to normal..

Well I've tried multiple time to get Mrs a used Peloton+ but everyone I've communicated with telling seller that I'll come X days or tomorrow and they said okay and then sold to someone else later that day. Multiple times. So I saved a lot of money buying this for $300 which I was going to spend on a PTON extended warranty. Fuck PTON and I want to Zwift this winter still! Short research told me that it's a solid exercise bike and there is a PTON work around and I found out Mr's employer pays for Echelon subscription so let's go!
Echelon Connect-S for $300

I just much prefer riding real roads and real routes/scenery. Its got all the workouts I need and its cheaper. But I cant really get into the trainer racing, so maybe id like zwift better if I was into that.
The zwift racing is really worth the monthly fee. I've never tried anything else. Don't really like the workout features. Probably why I'm not getting any faster.

well im probably different in that I just cant get into the trainer racing. I have tried it and I just cant get into it. I can at times do workouts on the trainer (although I hate it)...most of the time, I ride the trainer, burn calories and watch TV. If I take my road bike out, to try and average 200w or less...my god, I dont think I have ever done it....200w on the trainer feels like work lol.

But ya, if you are into the racing, I can totally see zwift being worth the money.
