Verizon Droid

My phone died. The opening screen wouldn't turn on and I had to factory reset the phone. It brings the phone back to the way it was when I took it out of the box. I lost all my phone numbers and emails and contacts and pictures and apps and ringtones and uh...🙁

-Jim.

Jim, That blows, but you can recover some of the stuff. Google saves all your contacts to your gmail account, so you should be able to sync your entire address book. Also, your apps are tied to your google account, so you should be able to download them again, even ones you paid for.

Pics and ringtones are prolly lost. But yeah, that kinda sucks.

I may be a loophole. I don't actually use my Gmail, I have optonline set-up as my email. I do have a couple people that have gmail that showed back up in my phone. I also put the facebook phonebook on my home screen so I have most of my contacts back, but not everyone.

If I enter everyone in gmail instead of my phone will it sync them? Or in the VZW backup thing?

You don't have to use gmail for google to save your contacts. I hardly ever use gmail either.

Try this:
- Go to Contacts
- Hit Menu, select Accounts
- Check the box for Auto-sync

That should load your old contact list and whenever you add a new contact it will be automatically backed up.

Disclaimer: These steps are for Android 2.0. Your Droid Eris uses 1.5, so it may have slightly different menus.

Now that the Nexus One is coming to Verizon, would the current Droid owners make the same choice if they had a do over ?

My new-every-two is up in June. I was 100% set on Droid in January, but I think I'm leaning towards the Nexus instead. Man, this is going to be tough!

I will be getting a Droid soon. What is the deal with the Eris? Other than the keyboard is there a big difference?

The Eris has no keyboard and (I think) is lighter. The Eris runs Android 1.5 or 1.6.

The Motorola Droid is a bit heavier, has a faster processor, and is running Android 2.01 (soon to be upgraded to 2.1). I'd go with the Motorola Droid.

Here is a good comparison.

Basically the Droid has a faster processor and a larger display with much higher resolution. The faster processor will be even more important once adobe Flash is implemented in the browser (ie. streaming video).

I would say forget the Eris and decide between either the Droid or the Nexus One that's coming to Verizon very soon.

Kinda interesting. The Eris is more iPhone"ish" in the feel and look and size. The Nexus seems like it's just an updated version of the Eris, they're both made by HTC...

I wonder if thats the reason Verizon wont be selling the the Nexus, especially when the Iphone is supposedly coming out for Verizon when they role out the 4G. Verizon doesnt want to piss off Apple

Verizon will be selling the Nexus. That was part of Google's big initial announcement. Spring 2010.

Any rumor of Verizon selling the 4G Iphone is just that - rumor & speculation.

Well I guess I'm mr. Misinformed. Sorry

Cool! I was looking forward to it when there were rumors of an update in February...Then when it didn't come everyone started bitching like little babies in the droid forum I go to, so I pretty much lost all interest in the update. My phone is fine with 2.01 anyway.

Do you have the same build as the official release, or a super secret ninja version?

Whenever a text-entry box appears, simply tap the microphone
icon on the virtual keyboard and speak.

This was the one I really wanted....But I'm surprised to see that the 2.1 music player and additional home screens aren't included. Whatever, I know where to get all of those things as apks anyway 😀
