Gobble, Gobble

I saw some turkeys at Mercer yesterday on the blue trail. mmmmm turkey! 🙂
no pics though, if you stop on the blue trail this time of year you get eaten alive!

I saw a black snake in allaire today by the hog bog section. What a beauty! I think its 4feet. Sorry No pictures.

There must be a bunch of them there. A few years ago I ran one over on the Switchbacks....thought it was a stick. Saw others many times during tms....cool stuff.

That scream we heard from the riders behind us,... we thought it was one of the ladies, it was one of the guys.

Was on 6 Bridges in Ringwood yesterday and saw two "cats" on the trail, which I thought was odd. Got closer and realized they were fawns, about a week old. They didn't know what to make of me and just froze right there in the middle of the trail. The little buggers darted off as I was trying to pull my phone out to take a picture.

Okay, this report is a week old, but on the Paulinskill last weekend,
saw a black bear cub, some rabbits, a ribbon snake, flock of wild turkeys and a couple of great blue herons, one of which was ginormous.

Lots of fawn sightings. Twins at Perrineville lake park. At 6M yesterday mom and babe.

At one point I am following my friend Dima and he yells out "HUGE bird!" and I glance over/up and see a HUGE all goldish-brown bird. WAY too big for a hawk. Thinking juvenile bald eagle.

We saw a mom and baby hopping thru one of the soy fields yesterday too. So cute!

saw a fawn yesterday at work and this morning a mom and two fawns were running on the pink side of allaire...

So this morning was interesting as I was rolling through the glass trail I heard a rustle right before one of the last turns as I rounded the corner there was a deer in the center of the trail just looking at me but only for a few seconds until it was bound of in to the brush again.trust me I think both of us had an oh $h!t moment... this morning was a 3 deer kind of day..

That's a Red Bellied Cooter. They get huge

TY!
damn, we should have taken more pics! seems they are somewhat rare?? should have cleaned the mud off too - would have liked to have seen the color on the shell.

(how does a bullfrog eat a turtle?)

Well they are and they aren't. Their range in the mid Atlantic is very small, however where they do occur, they are abundant.

The colors on their shells fade with age.
Juveniles are vibrant with yellow snd red patterns. Adults sometimes turn completely black however their plastron (bottom) stays red.

I saw a bobcat today. It had the look of mountain lion, but a short tail, so I am thinking it was a bobcat. Second time I saw one that looked like this and within a few miles of each other. Super cool sighting. We did some hide and seek, but only got two looks at at before I lost it.

That's awesome Ellen, I have been wishing to see a bobcat!

they have a couple out at the wolf rescue http://www.lakotawolf.com/ up in columbia. worth a visit (like a school field trip)

woman gets in the cage with two, and she has some food - she can't stop moving, because they are planning on how to climb her to get it...reminds everyone they are "20lbs of all business" very cool.
