Chimney Rock Conditions

I spent most of my time on White and Red today, but the "usual spots" of mud on those trails were long and quite soft. I don't know...I just can't bring myself to rate the trails a "3" overall based on that kind of mud. I rated it a "2." The other trails may be better -- I didn't see them, though.

that look by the baseball field in the back after that bridge. thats brown according to some trail maps no?

I think old school hiking maps use brown to mean unmarked. Or someone just needed a new color. Or Pigs in Space.

I have always called these the ballfield trails. On Saturday am, rode this, most of yellow , and a bit a orange . Yellow and orange were really good, ball fields was surprisingly muddy. Needs more drying out.
On yellow, never before saw the big tree trunk "ramp" near the 4 way. Looks really intimidating, but upon inspection it's simplicity and flow is apparent. Nice work !!
Added a pic of my bike at the (now green) Chimney Rock. Kind of matches.

snow from last night will make CR a mudfest?

Id like to go Tuesday 7 AM to do red, upper blue, white.

Doubtful, didn't get much at all & melted already. Might be a bit slick in spots is the only rider worry. Still some wet spots especially on Blue & Red so expect to get a little dirty.

Any body see the guy walking around Yellow (near the bottom).

He had a samurai sword. I think he was practicing something. When I turned around and looked for him, he was gone. Ninja style.

i did!!, I think I bump into you just before Gilbride (white/orange fatbike), fuckin nut was chopping at things and hopping around the downed trees
seemed like he had some face paint on as well, I was a bit freaked out to pass him

Oh great maybe they released the machete guy from the Washington Valley Rd. incident.
At first I thought I saw a sword, then heard chopping as I stopped to add some air to my tires, so I thought it might have been @Kirt working on the down trees someone's been mentioning. But as rode closer, he was actually a fairly muscular dude and look like this......

OK a little more about the conditions after the winter and that big rain fall

Anything that is remotely fall line has some bit of erosion, especially the older trails. This goes from some to a lot. Tons of new root exposure, big & small gulley’s, loose rock all over the park. Much of this is probably not repairable so I imagine that the line will form to the outside which will make trails much wider. Just the way it is. Spots that get really bad will have to be rerouted if possible. Have to see how things play out with usage and additional storms.

All the newer tails, done within the last couple of years all held up great. 1 small issue on High Tech that could use a little work, otherwise perfect. All the switchbacks on both Yellow & Orange are totally fine other than some loose rocks. Same with most of High Tech, just lots of loose rocks. The new trail we did on Red in December held up perfectly and is surprisingly dry. Still need to remove the flags & tape.

Only 1 tree down that I noticed. It’s on Yellow right when you drop down from the Gilbride parking lot. The Rangers are awesome keeping the park clear! Otherwise just lots of branches/sticks all over the park to watch out for.

The small hand cut bridge that was on White (close to Newmans) is gone. I looked pretty far down stream and saw nothing. Hopefully something can be done there again.

The only real sign people were riding, when wet, is on upper Blue. Lots of tire tracks but in the big picture, no biggie.

Overall I’m pretty happy there is no damage that makes anything unrideable and as a bonus, how dry it is.

With no TM planned until the end of April, I plan to try & get over during the week (probably 1 day a week) to clean up where I can. If anyone is available & wants to lend a hand, shoot me a PM and we can set up a day.

some one found the bridge, and was nice enough to pace off where it floated away about 250yds down stream and left a sign. It got hung up on what may be a muskrat dwelling. Checked the weight to see what it would take to move but probably close to 200 lbs, so wasn't looking for a hernia. Might head back there this weekend and try to float it back up stream with my fishing waders on.

I was riding up gilbride this past saturday and saw that guy in the woods, had to do a double take!
