Dragons are F'ing Awesome

SWWW

We were somewhere before Xmas, aside from that little interlude above. I think I mentioned something about going away, and the New Normal taking effect after the new year at some point. Well, the holidays are done, and it's a new year. So...now what?

I suppose I should talk about a few obvious things. Like maybe riding bikes?

Riding Bikes

The last time I rode a bike was 12/20 with Andy. I know, it's been a long time. With the holidays I had J a lot, then I wasn't motivated much at all for some of the time in there, then I was out of town, then when I was back in town I was really busy, and then this past weekend I had J, and...I know, bunch of excuses. But this is a good time of the year for excuses, right?

Golf balls, that's what Eric replied to me a few days ago when I told him I haven't been riding. Focus on the golf balls and riding will come in time.

We're going riding again tonight, Andy & I.

Montreal

So the day after Xmas I made my way up to Montreal to spend some time with Andy. Ok, the 3% of you who haven't figured things out can fast forward to the next section I suppose, then come back and read this. Well, really there's not much to read. She is Canadian, and went up to spend the holidays with her family. After Christmas we spent some time together in the city, where there was a lot of snow.

Snow is a different ballgame up there. It snows, a LOT.

We had some good times up there and it was nice to see where she's spent much of her life before coming down to NJ. I know, this has nothing at all to do with biking nor exercise nor training. But I know you guys all come here for the entertainment value. And, well, since this is all part of my life going forward, it's going to make more sense if I'm just open to talk about things that I do on a day-to-day and week-to-week basis.

So with that, for the 3%...

Coming Clean 2

Yes, Andy and I are in a relationship. I think she's the most wonderful woman in the world. I'll spare you all the sappy details but I'll say that I'm incredibly happy. Normally stuff like this wouldn't make it to a training blog. But you know how it is. Life and riding bikes are sort of inter-twined and since I ride bikes with her a lot, it only makes sense for me to be honest with stuff. It will make writing here a lot easier, since we spend a lot of time together and all that.

The microwave was for her. So no, I don't really need 2. Well, I do need a second one if I plan on cooking something at her place in the microwave.

Oh, and her name isn't really Andy. But I think most of you know that already.

The New Normal

So this is it, the New Normal. It's not really going to be "normal" for a while but it will be more normal than the past few months I'd say. 2012 was a year of change, to be sure. Andy says that at the start of last year, I said something like I expected the year to be one of change. I guess I really had no idea just how much.

Well, 2013 is going to be a great year. In fact, I expect it to be ridiculously awesome. I'm sure I'll tell you all about it as it happens.

I know, nobody will know what to say to this post. Utah will tell me this offline. But I know it already. So if you like, reply in haiku. Or something. Or check out the pic below.

Biking in Montreal

Life is good when you have a partner you care about who really enjoys your hobbies. Then you start to notice half of your hobby money goes to the other half that you care so much for 😀

I'm glad you haven't ridden your bike in 18 days. It makes me feel better about how long I was off the bike. Even though my time off is like your days x's 10. Or 3. You get the point. You told me a while back, "just go out and ride for an hour," so that's what I've been doing. It seems dumb, but when everybody around you is so wrapped up in numbers it's hard to remember why you started riding in the first place. I've had some shitty 'miles & average speed' numbers lately and I could not give 2 shits 🙂. So thanks for that.

Andy being Canadian in the normal world is cool. But I won't be able to be friends with her during hockey season. Especially if I find out she's a Montreal Canadians fan. Oh man, that's the worst. One positive: There is only 48 games this season.

I'm glad to hear the trip went well and you are settling into a new normal. I am wondering, however, when the blog title changes to either golf balls or microwaves are f'ing awesome.

And boom went the dynamite.
Congrats on the happy.

Sorry- I don't have the Haiku gene.

Welcome back. I didn't know Andy wasn't Andy but I didn't think it was suspicious you ment a lady friend for riding at 530am. To get a beginner rider to ride something other than a spin bike at that time takes something more than your striking good looks.

Good to hear you're moving along Norm.
I replied in haiku, but they were cheesy. Deleted.

This just happened. My dog is large enough, and my house small enough, that she went down a hallway she couldn't turn around in. So she had to back all the way out, which is like watching an AT-AT do the tango. It took enough time for me to stop and watch it unfold, as dogs really don't have reverse. I wish she had a backup beeper, as that would have made it just that much more awesome. So I leave you with that image.
