H2H-IV Lewis Morris dust off thread

Great race yesterday. By far the funnest race of the year so far. Starting to find my roots in the Cat 1 class, got 10th, will take that with the guys I'm racing with. Maybe next race they will slow down a little bit. 😀

1st H2H race of the season for me. I'm still trying to find some form, but managed 8th in Cat 1 SS, mainly though attrition and dogged perseverance.

I had fun trying to latch onto geared/suspended racers, though I spent a lot of time saying "Take the left" on some of the downs anyway.

Gorgeous day with great racing and lots of cool folks out. It's hard to have a bad time when a bunch of people are hollering your name every time you roll through the start/finish.😀

Thanks to everyone who worked to put this on, as well as our resident photographers for the cool shots.

I went yesterday to cheer for Jim V . It was the first time I had been to a race.
Does anyone have any idea what the times were in the beginner class ? I've never raced before and my cardio/endurance sucks, but maybe one day.

Plus, another guy riding in baggies can't hurt .

I would be Beginner 40 + ( I'm 42 ) .

Congratulation John! What did I tell you when I asked you and Rob to join the H2H race series early this year, you guys will have fun and you'll do well too. Well, you are not only having a blast but you also podium too. Again, Congratulations! 😉

Thanks Jon!
I do remember you encouraging us to race. At the time I thought I was way out of my league.
Everyone I have met(including you) in this sport has been great.
It's about so much more than just pedaling a machine...

Hope to see you soon.

Let The Good Times Roll!

Great race indeed!

As a newbie to the XC mountain bike scene (first race XC race) and newbie to the Endurance Race scene, transitioning from a few years as pack fill in the Cat 3/Cat 4 road, I am really starting to dig the mountain bike scene. It reminds me very much of the CX races and the positive vibes.

Planned on racing Waywayanda but reality impeded so this was the first H2H race. I have come down from Central New York (inlaws live in Vernon) to race CX a bunch. The races put on by Westwood and Skylands have all been grerat so I had high hopes for this race. Man, it was above and beyond.

Super easy sign in, well organized and fast. Free schwag and a PINT glass! So much better than a road race where your entry fee gets you 4-6 safety pins. Awesome course, well marked and with 2 kegs waiting at the end of the course.

I raced the Cat 2 Sport class for the 18 miles. The plan was to use this to get better technically at race pace for some upstate NY races and the final 2 NUE Series 6hr races. Had a chance to pre-ride the course on Saturday. It is amazing how much harder the course was with a simple turn of the screw. To quote Paul and Phil, "I was on the rivet from the start". Managed to not face plant into a tree and finish somewhere midpack. A pint of Sam Adams greatly facilitated the recovery process. Hopefully I'll get to make another
H2H race before the CX season begins. Looking forward to it!

Thank you for a great race and the great cycling scene. It makes the trips to the in-laws that much better!

wow that guy was an animal!

yeah, he was moving. I held him off for a minute or two going through some downhill single-track. he never asked to pass so I kept going as fast as I could (and not having any suspension and not being a downhill bomber by nature ..I felt like I was on the "edge" a few times). anyway, after a minute or two I pulled to the left and said "GO!!!". he said "thanks" blew by me and disappeared down the trail.

Fun race but as I was pulling out of upper lot onto park road was talking to the wife saying I was leaving and see you soon. Got pulled over. $130 ticket. Yeesh.
Great conditions. 10th out of 20 in 45-49 sport. 1st anniversary of first mtn bike race. Got 2nd in beginner last year. Hope to make Kitt next week.

or you can just park across the street in the gravel parking lot and ride across at the blinking light crosswalk in front of it. it's a lot easier
beware the cops if you are driving through the park, don't speed!

😡😡😡😡

SS course question

How was the LM as a single speed course? It seemed like it would be great for a ss with no steep climbs. Fun course.

Such an awesome day today. 1 year since my first mtn bike race ever. Got 13th in beginner last year. 40+ minutes and used my granny ring for every climb. I was completly stunned at how bad I did and considered never racing again. But I decided to give it another try. 1 year later I managed to win 30-34 sport today. Even sweeter was the fact that my mother came up from florida and was there to cheer me on. Plus I also managed to run down the guy who smoked me at waywayanda and took first there. Never thought I would catch him, or James fox for that matter. Knowing the course as well as I do was definetly helpful.

Great work everyone! Especially Norm! Not only the first guy to pass me, but the only guy on lap two. Everyone else took another lap. Nice work beating leo today Norm, thats worth a medal in itself. Thanks for reminding to not stand and pedal norm, it was actually very helpful. I backed off and took it easy on lap two and had enough in the tank to hold off my buddy from martys on lap 3.

First Team No Tights victory!!!!

Congrats Joe! Sounds like you've come a long way.
Your Mom being there reminded me of how my sister suprised me by coming down from MA to cheer me on during my first race @ Wayway.
Very inspiring for a guy like me...
Thanks for your encouragement.
Good Stuff!

How was the LM as a single speed course?

agree - great course. as a beginner on a SS there was just one hill too many for me and I had to walk for about 30 feet up one little hill about 2/3 through the course (it wasnt even a steep and/or long hill...it just came at a particular point where I had no legs). I HATE walking. hate it. I am still kicking myself (well, just a little).

yup that was me in the blue Jimenez kit. Great race, brother. You looked smooth out there.

George it was great to see you out racing your mountain bike, I'm glad you had fun!!!

As for my race, it was the best I've felt this year. I definitely feel like I raced it faster than last year. A big thanks to Marty's for doing an awesome job and hooking us up with beer and mugs. I hung out for a while after for some burgers and beer and screamed for all of the experts/pros - not just Ben 😛

I didn't realize I stuck my tongue out until I saw the pic 😎
Thanks again Luke!!!!

Congrats to all the racers! I left without checking my time so I can't compare to last year yet. I felt like I lost time on some of the sharp turns... something to work on. Great race and a bigger than ever pro/cat 1 field for the gals.

was this guy wearing tan baggies and a blue jersey and helmet and riding a rigid black ss karate monkey?
