For the Love of Wayway
Instead of whinning that I broke my derailleur hanger at the end of the first lap(stick in pic above got caught in cassette & spokes), I'm gonna talk about why I love the Bearscat 50. I feel that I would have been a contender for 5th If*, but there are about 3 other people that could have beaten me to take 5th If*...
*If only; my bike didn't break, my head didn't boil, I didn't slam my nutsack into my stem, I slept more then 2hrs last night, my knee worked...
This is the best race course due to the amount of quality trails, close to 25miles of terrain that offers challenge without getting stupid. The first 10+ miles are incredible; pump house, lookout, pickle, rattlesnake, fisherman, sitting bear. These trails are distinct sections that reward the technical rider. I don't know the names of the trails on the 2nd half of the course other then rock-a-dendron. The last 10 miles is not as tecnical but features like nature Jims bridge are thrown in to keep you on your toes.
Jungle Habitat and Blue offer good technical challenges in the h2h races but on a much smaller scale. Nothing beats the volume of great material that the BS 50 has to offer. Ramapo/ Ringwood or Mooch land has a ton of great tech stuff and could produce an endurance race course matching the epicness of the BS50, however there are no races held at these places. I maintain that the Bearscat 50 is the best endurance mtb course, period. The fact that every year only half the racers finish the course and yet still come back again next year proves that this course is worth the challenge.
Congrats to those who completed 50, its an accomplishment! Thank you Black Bear cycling for hosting the best endurance mtb race!
