Having a dedicated bike just for the trainer. No derailure , no brakes. No shifters
Electric virtual shifting
Makes life easier.
Plus... I think it's cool
Just get the Wahoo bike, it’s worth the cost IMO. Just so easy to get on and ride. Saw one on FB market last week for $1200 (gone now). Another currently at $1600. If you think you will keep doing it long term you can justify the expense.

The new Caveworks Rivet can be ordered as just a frameset and you can install whatever bars and cranks you want.

Couple this with a spare flat bar and cranks and the Zwift hub one with the ss cog and simple virtual shifter and you'd be all set. Power meter is in the trainer.

That looks like a good solution...I'll check it out. Thanks!

I’ve read a few reviews and there’s not a lot of adjustability. You’re stuck with 170mm cranks for example. Maybe not a dealbreaker but, I think there will be more options soon.
Good point. Anyone looking for a solution like this is paying for adjustability...

Here is another option. It'll cost a lot more though...

I see there is a stem that may allow mtb handlebars, but how do you deal with the shifters/shifting?

When our smart trainer dies, I imagine this will be something we consider.

Going to be a great winter!

Anyone else using the virtual shifting? I have been using it since last October and it is great when it works. I am on my 3rd Click shifter. They keep dying on me after about 3 months and Zwift keeps sending me replacements. It’s nice that they keep sending me new ones but then I am down for about a week waiting for the new to arrive

I think it may almost be worth it to not use the single speed hub they provide so that you can revert to mechanical shifting if the virtual unit craps out.

I am also considering upgrading to the Play shifters

I started using virtual shifting as soon as it was announced. I went and bought the play shifters since they also include all the handy control buttons since i dont have my computer in arms reach ( i set it on a little table to drive the tv on the wall). They are pretty rugged and have never given me any issue. Having the shifting buttons in close proximity to the actual shifting is a lot more natural in terms of muscle memory and feel. The Play controllers are still at the introductory $99 cost which is supposedly like a subsidized price to get them out there. Who knows when or if they will go up.
